What’s New at Trixie’s Beauty Bar?
Trixie’s Whine with Wine, Reading-Optional, Book Club & Social Hour

 Bad Girls Go Everywhere

Tuesday, July 28 @ 7pm   (Right here in the salon)

Join us for socializing, cookie eating and wine drinking. Oh yeah, maybe we’ll talk about the book, too.

This month’s book? Bad Girls Go Everywhere by Jennifer Scanlon, a stellar biography of Helen Gurley Brown, the original Cosmo Girl & author of Sex and the Single Girl in 1962 (the foremother of Sex and the City). Like Mad Men? Read this book to get the real story of the times… See you there.

So, there’s been a lot of discussion around the salon lately (no, not everyone is talking about Sarah Palin, just mostly everyone) but, when we’re not doing that, we’ve been discussing the idea of making the book club into a reading-optional “social club.”  Whaddya think, gang?  We’ve always been pretty loosey-goosey about the whole book part of book club, but I certainly don’t want people to stay away because they haven’t read the book…

With that in mind, our next social hour will be Tuesday, September 30th at 7pm here at the salon.  I’ll bring cupcakes & champagne because it will also be the first celebration of my 40th birthday!  (October 1st)  Tyler is right behind me in November, so we’ll be accepting your love & birthday wishes for about 6 weeks altogether!  (We’re just a little excited, can you tell?)

If you want a book suggestion for this month, we’re checking out James Patterson’s Sundays at Tiffany’s.  See you in the salon!

Yaaay for Trixie’s All-Fun, Not-Very-Serious Book Club!

Steve Martin’s Senior PictureWe had a record number of folks (including some cool husbands) join us last week to discuss Steve Martin’s entertaining autobiography, Born Standing Up.  Best of all, one of our illustrious book club members actually attended Garden Grove High School with young Mr. Martin.  As you can see from some of these 1963 yearbook pictures, Martin was always a goofball (as well as a cheerleader) and clearly had no trouble being in front of an audience.  Enjoy!

Next Meeting: Tuesday 3/25, 7pm — book still to be determined, I’ll keep you posted.

rococo.jpgrococo.jpgPamToday’s breaking news in the salon…

Pamela Anderson Got Married…Again!

While we understand it isn’t really news, it did get us going on a pool to see how long this marriage will last.  Maybe this one will actually last five seconds longer than her series of weddings did with Kid Rock.  So far, we have bets ranging from 3 months to 8 months.  Care to wager?  The prize will be a voodoo doughnut from the Little Red Bike Cafe.  You know you want to…  Post a comment to participate.

While we’re on the subject of Pam and her foibles — you gotta see this one: a site that provides charts, graphs, and a photographic timetable of the development of Pamela Anderson’s boobs.  Just in case you were curious!

November’s meeting of the All Fun Book Club will be on Tuesday, 11/27 and we’ll be reading “Rococo” by Adriana Trigiani.  Do join us or feel free to participate here via the blog!  We have a lot of fun and hope to see you there.  We’ll also be getting ready for a rococo.jpgrococo.jpgHalloween party this weekend — if you need help with makeup, fake lashes or hair– do let us know, we still have appointments available on Sat 10/27.  Pictures to come…

Well, our second Trixie’s All Fun Book Club meeting was even more fun than the first — thanks in large part to amazing homemade ice cream provided with love by our neighbors, the Little Red Bike Cafe.  We were served a banana split, of all things, with a scoop of salted caramel (Umm, yes), vanilla, and the piece de resistance — cherry coconut with chocolate chunks (unbelievable!).  I scream, you scream, we all scream for Little Red Bike Ice Cream, yaaaaaay!

We discussed Jennifer Weiner’s “Goodnight Nobody” among other things, including that feeling of being a fish The Notebookout of water that the author evokes so well.  We also laughed about our various husbands’ choice of attire and what The Weddingit’s like to lose yourself in roles like “wife,” “mother,” and “partner.”   We’re sure almost everyone has experienced that at one time or another.  Next month we’ll meet on Thursday, 10/18 and we’ll be reading the Nicholas Sparks favorites “The Notebook” and “The Wedding” if we can get to them both.  Mark your calendars!  The NotebookThe Notebook

 Mr. Las Vegas

In the salon, we bemoaned Wayne Newton’s surprising lack of dance talent inThe WeddingThe Wedding “Dancing With the Stars” and the fact that the judges were too starstruck to vote him off.  You would think a guy who’s been entertaining for his whole life would have picked up a few moves, eh? Oh well, thank goodness he can sing!  Danka Schoen, Wayne, baby.
